Poland has begun serial production of the Heron 6×6 armored vehicle, marking another step in the modernization of its land forces.
The program is being led by Huta Stalowa Wola, a strategic state-owned manufacturer, and uses a chassis supplied by Tatra Defence, under a model of industrial cooperation between Polish and Czech companies.
The Heron was conceived as a multifunction tactical platform, the result of technology transfer and a division of responsibilities: suppliers from the Czech Republic are responsible for mobility, while the Polish industry leads integration and serial manufacturing. The initiative builds on previous experience from the WARAN 4×4 program, which has already been incorporated into the Polish Armed Forces.
Designed for high modularity, the Heron can take on different configurations, such as command vehicle, transport, combat support, and medical evacuation. This approach follows the European trend of employing common, adaptable platforms, with the potential to reduce logistics costs and increase operational flexibility throughout the life cycle.
