Peru has just inaugurated a new FAME assembly plant that will produce K808 armored vehicles and KLTV tactical vehicles in partnership with South Korea.
As reported by Defence Blog, Peruvian President José Enrique Jeri Ore officially inaugurated the special and military vehicle assembly plant of FAME S.A.C. in Lurigancho, Chosica.
The inauguration event was described by the government as part of a broader plan to strengthen national technological autonomy and expand domestic defense production.
According to the announcement, the plant will assemble the 8×8 personnel armored vehicle K808 and the 4×4 light tactical vehicle KLTV. Both platforms originate from South Korea’s defense industry and are already in use throughout the region.
According to the Peruvian government, the new facility aims to support Peru’s transition from an outdated armored fleet to modern systems that can be produced and maintained locally.
FAME, the state-owned arms and ammunition manufacturer for the Army, will lead the assembly work in cooperation with South Korean partners. Peru’s decision to invest in local production comes at a time when more governments are re-evaluating how to maintain armored fleets without fully relying on foreign supply chains.
