Patria, a Finnish company, presented the prototype of the ARVE wheeled artillery system, which combines the SISU E13TP (8×8) off-road truck with the towed gun 155 GH 52.

The goal of the project is to create an affordable and fast solution without structural changes initially, using equipment already familiar to the Finnish armed forces.

The idea is to ensure that the system can be operated by military personnel and reservists without the need for additional training, as the gun is already in use by Finland.

The ARVE allows rapid fire, with a capacity of three shots in the first 15 seconds and a range of up to 40 km. The ammunition load includes 24 shells, and the loading and unloading process is manual. The system can be installed with either the 155 GH 52 or the 155 K 83 gun, as both share the same design base. The operation is efficient, allowing the first shot to take place within 90 seconds after arrival at the position, and the unit can withdraw 45 seconds after the last shot.

Patria also offers the option to equip the ARVE with a loading machine if necessary and highlights that the system’s maintenance will be simple since the SISU E13TP truck is also used by the Finnish Defence Forces.

The project was first announced in April 2024 and promises to be a practical and efficient solution for the country’s mobile artillery needs.
