Paraguay has officially received the first batch of A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, produced by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, to strengthen its Air Force. The delivery, made at the end of June, marks an important step in the country’s military aviation modernization.
According to a press release issued on June 30 by Embraer’s media office, four units of the turboprop attack model were delivered simultaneously during a ceremony attended by high-ranking Paraguayan military and political officials, as well as representatives from the Brazilian company.
In total, Paraguay purchased six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft through a contract financed by a loan worth approximately 104 million US dollars. The package also includes flight simulators and a full logistics support system for aircraft maintenance and operation.
According to the Paraguayan government, the new aircraft will be used to combat drug trafficking, with a special focus on intercepting aircraft used by drug cartels, as well as aerial support missions for ground troops.
With this acquisition, Paraguay joins the group of Latin American countries operating the A-29 Super Tucano, considered one of the most advanced light attack aircraft in the world in its category.
