Overland AI announced the raising of $100 million to accelerate the production and operational integration of the ULTRA unmanned ground vehicle with the United States Armed Forces.

The investment, which includes venture capital and a $20 million debt facility, marks the transition of ground autonomy from the experimental field to actual use in real military missions.

Designed to operate in complex terrain, off-road, and even GPS-denied environments, the ULTRA has already been employed in autonomous resupply missions following airborne insertions by the 82nd Airborne Division. The system has also been used in logistics in contested areas, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, counter-drone operations, and tasks involving breaching minefields and obstacles.

The maturity of the technology was driven by the company’s participation in DARPA’s RACER program, which over three years tested and refined robotic autonomy in challenging scenarios. Additionally, the OverDrive architecture was integrated into platforms such as the Textron Ripsaw M5, demonstrating the capability of a single operator to supervise multiple robotic vehicles in complex missions, reinforcing the concept of human-machine collaboration.

Currently, the ULTRA is already in operation with various formations of the Army, the Marine Corps, and US special operations units, while Overland AI is also expanding civilian applications of the technology in partnership with CAL FIRE for wildfire response.

With the new funding round, the company aims to scale production, field support, and system maintenance, keeping pace with growing interest from allied nations.
