Overland AI, a U.S.-based company specialized in autonomous technologies for off-road terrains, revealed the ULTRA, a fully autonomous tactical vehicle for the defense sector.

Designed to operate on terrain without relying on GPS or pre-existing maps, the ULTRA can reach speeds of up to 56 km/h, carry approximately 450 kg, and travel up to 160 km.

It was developed to perform missions such as reconnaissance, drone combat, and logistical support, with the ability to carry modular loads, such as unmanned aerial systems.

The vehicle uses the OverDrive software and the SPARK infrastructure, both tested under rigorous conditions in the DARPA RACER program. This technology allows the ULTRA to operate efficiently in difficult terrains and environments without a signal, making it useful for critical missions such as troop support, resupply, and humanitarian actions. It also has network communication with support for 5G, satellites, and local mesh networks, facilitating integration with combatants and command centers.

According to Overland AI, the ULTRA is capable of operating on a variety of terrains, from dense forests to volcanic areas, extending the reach of armed forces in contested regions such as the Indo-Pacific.

The announcement strengthens the company’s partnership with the U.S. Armed Forces after an $18.6 million contract with the Army and the Defense Innovation Unit. Overland continues to support projects for the Army, Marines, and Special Operations Command.
