According to the official statement, the large-scale exercise involved long-range Tu-142 and Il-38 aircraft specialized in anti-submarine warfare, as well as shipborne Ka-27M helicopters, which reinforced patrol and attack operations.

The training target was represented by one of the Northern Fleet’s own nuclear submarines, which played the role of the enemy during the simulated scenario.
A video of the operation was released by the Russian Ministry of Defense, showing the aircraft and helicopters in action during the simulation.
The maneuvers are part of the large-scale “Zapad-2025” exercise series, integrating various air, naval, and ground units, strengthening Russia’s capability in joint defense operations in the Arctic and the North Atlantic.
