North Korea carried out on January 27 a test of a modernized large-caliber multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) as part of its efforts to expand strategic military capabilities.
The test was personally observed by Kim Jong Un and his daughter, according to the state news agency KCNA.
According to the official statement, four rockets were launched during the test and accurately struck maritime targets located at a distance of 358.5 kilometers from the firing point.

Kim Jong Un added that the next steps to strengthen the country’s strategic capabilities, including nuclear deterrence, will be discussed at the Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, which is expected to define future guidelines for the state’s defense policy.
The test comes amid constant monitoring of North Korean launches by countries in the region, such as South Korea and Japan, and keeps international attention focused on Pyongyang’s military program.
