Nissan has announced the return of the Leaf, its pioneering electric car, which will enter its third generation by 2026.

The new model will be more aerodynamic, featuring 60kWh and 87kWh battery options, with front-wheel drive and E-4orce (all-wheel drive) configurations.

The brand will use the CMF-EV platform, shared with the Ariya and Renault models. Production will take place at the Sunderland plant in the UK, which is being adapted for electric vehicle manufacturing.

The Leaf is part of Nissan’s broader plan, which includes launching the electric Micra and the next-generation Juke by the end of 2026.

The new Micra has been officially revealed in its first image, showcasing a design inspired by the Renault 5, due to the alliance between the brands. The model will have a roofline similar to the R5 and headlights inspired by the 20-23 concept. Produced on the same line as the Renault 5 in Douai, France, the Micra will feature 40kWh and 52kWh battery options, offering a range of up to 400 km. Additionally, the model will have electric motors with power outputs ranging from 94hp to 148hp.

Nissan will also introduce a bidirectional charging system in the Micra and adopt an Open-R multimedia system, with an integrated personal assistant via ChatGPT, similar to Renault’s system.

The electric Micra is expected to hit the market by the end of 2025, as part of Nissan’s expansion in the electric vehicle segment.
