Montgomery Township, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, introduces new wavy lines on Grays Lane to curb reckless driving
Grays Lane, a town in Pennsylvania, has painted curved road lines on a residential street. The purpose of this new feature is to attempt to “calm traffic” and help authorities gain control over reckless driving. The information comes from the New York Post.
“These traffic calming measures are being installed due to the numerous complaints and concerns we have received from residents about the ‘expressway’ that Grays Lane has become,” authorities wrote in a statement on Facebook.
Despite the town’s good intentions, residents struggle to understand how this new pattern would be an effective solution.
“This is not the project to follow. There are other options out there, and I think they should have taken that route,” resident Mike DiLorenzo told NBC News Philadelphia.
“I think speed bumps would have gone much further in slowing people down on this particular road,” said another resident, William King.
Many residents stated that they are ignoring the lines and driving on the road as they always have. Others joked that the crew must have been “drunk” while painting the lines.

One person wrote on social media that they drove along the road following the new lines and described the experience as “a roller coaster.”
“If you drove like that down the street, the police would think you were drunk driving and pull you over,” joked another, while someone else reflected: “Looks like you gave a kindergarten class creative freedom.”
While many criticized the initiative, one resident appreciated the change.
“With all the school stops, people walking, and animals crossing, it’s always very dangerous,” said Joe Albanese of Montgomeryville to 6ABC Action News.
“I thought it looked a bit crazy when I saw the guys doing it in the morning, but it makes sense to me because people are always speeding on Grays Lane.”
Some people thought the initiative was an April Fool’s joke, and the municipality had to clarify: “Yes, this is a legitimate precaution that has been put into place.”
