A new PPKR-class border patrol ship, named “Sakhalin”, arrived in the Kamchatka Territory on September 8, marking an important reinforcement for the region’s Border Fleet.

The vessel’s arrival coincided with the anniversary of the formation of the border patrol ship detachment (PSKR), adding further symbolism to the event.

The crew of the “Sakhalin” was welcomed in an official ceremony by the Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Solodov, and the Head of the Border Directorate of Russia’s FSB for the Eastern Arctic Region, Alexei Trubetskoy. During the ceremony, the sailors were honored with departmental awards, certificates of recognition, and words of gratitude from the authorities.

The PPKR “Sakhalin” was built in St. Petersburg at the Almaz Shipbuilding Company shipyard, following Project 22120 “Purga,” known for its versatility in patrol, escort, and logistical support operations in challenging Arctic and coastal conditions.

With its arrival, the “Sakhalin” strengthens the surveillance and security capacity of Russia’s maritime borders in the Far East, while also symbolizing the ongoing investment in bolstering the national patrol fleet.
