MG has unveiled the new S5 EV, a compact electric SUV that promises to be a high-value option in the competitive B-SUV market.
Built on the same platform as the successful MG 4, it aims to compete with models from Skoda, Fiat, Kia, and BYD.
The car measures 4,476 mm in length and offers a 453-liter trunk, larger than that of the hatchback. The design follows a conservative approach, inspired by the Cyberster EV, featuring elements such as a split grille and integrated headlights. Available in six colors, it has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.27, ensuring efficiency.
The S5 EV will be available in three versions: SE Standard Range, SE Long Range, and Trophy Long Range. The base model comes with a 49 kWh battery and a range of 339 km, while the higher-end versions offer up to 480 km with a larger battery. Charging power ranges from 120 kW to 139 kW, and the more powerful models can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.
Pricing starts at $36,886, increasing with additional features. The Trophy version includes heated seats, a 360° camera, and an electric tailgate. MG expects the top-tier versions to be the most popular among consumers.
The interior brings a slight evolution from previous models, featuring two screens – a 12.8” infotainment display and a 10.25” digital instrument panel – along with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes softer materials and physical buttons for climate control. In terms of safety, the S5 EV is equipped with seven airbags and MG Pilot technology with driving assistance features.
MG aims to attract both existing customers and competitors’ clients, such as those from Kia and Hyundai, by focusing on affordability and value.
