The Thor Industries, parent company of Airstream, has revealed a new plug-in hybrid motorhome that will be available for purchase in 2025.
This recreational vehicle is built on an electric platform and features a small internal combustion generator to extend its range. The battery provides about 240 kilometers of range, but the range extender increases this capacity to approximately 800 kilometers in total.
The Thor Test Vehicle, considered the world’s first Class A hybrid motorhome, was developed in partnership with electric vehicle manufacturer Harbinger.

Equipped with a 140 kWh battery and an 800-volt system, it supports fast charging in direct current, which helps reduce charging time. While specific details about the engine have not been disclosed, Thor claims it has double the torque of a diesel engine.
Unlike traditional hybrids, the combustion engine in the Test Vehicle is not directly connected to the wheels, making it a series hybrid powered solely by electric motors. This model also uses a drive-by-wire system, similar to that of the Tesla Cybertruck. More information on pricing and branding will be released closer to the commercial launch in 2025.
