The industrial group Czechoslovak Group presented the new CFL-120 Karpat medium tank during the IDEB 2026 defense exhibition, held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The model was developed in partnership with the Turkish company FNSS Savunma Sistemleri and aims to combine firepower similar to that of heavy tanks with greater mobility and lower operational weight.

The armored vehicle uses a Turkish-origin tracked chassis and will enter serial production at CSG facilities in Slovakia. The vehicle is equipped with the Italian HITFACT MkII turret, manufactured by Leonardo, as well as a 120 mm cannon compatible with NATO-standard ammunition. The manufacturer also plans an alternative version fitted with 105 mm armament.

Among the project’s highlights is the ammunition storage system separated from the crew compartment, increasing survivability in the event of an attack. The tank also features modular armor, protection against chemical and nuclear threats, an automatic fire suppression system and the ability to integrate modern technologies, including active protection against missiles and drones.

Weighing less than 34 tons and capable of reaching a top speed of up to 70 km/h, the CFL-120 Karpat emerges as a possible option for renewing Slovakia’s armored fleet. The model is derived from the Kaplan MT, currently used by the Indonesian Army, but has received significant upgrades, especially with the adoption of the larger-caliber cannon.
