The United States Army has significantly accelerated the schedule of the new MV-75 tiltrotor, the next-generation assault aircraft of the FLRAA program.

Previously expected to enter service only between 2031 and 2032, the aircraft could now conduct its first flights as early as 2026, reflecting the Army’s urgency to keep pace with rapid technological evolution and the demands of the modern battlefield.

According to the Army Chief of Staff, General Randy A. George, the goal is to field the MV-75 as quickly as possible, with participation from active-duty units, the National Guard, and special operations forces. While the most likely timeline points to testing between October and December 2026, expectations are that the prototype will be delivered by the end of the year and begin evaluations in 2027.

The 101st Airborne Division has been selected as the first unit to receive the aircraft, while the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment will also take part in the process. Soldiers and maintenance teams are already involved in early evaluations to provide direct feedback, aiming to reduce modifications prior to full operational entry.

Accelerating the program involves risks and trade-offs, but the Army is betting on digital engineering, virtual prototypes, and early production decisions to shorten the gap between development and operational use. Bell is already assembling the first six test aircraft, and the MV-75 is expected to represent a major leap in aerial mobility and assault capabilities for U.S. forces.
