Motorcyclists wear ‘bald head helmets’ to protest fines in Brazil; understand the case (Photo: Instagram)
A helmet that allegedly mimics a bald head has caused so much trouble in northeastern Brazil that the city hall had to intervene to ban the unusual accessory.
The case quickly went viral and reportedly took place in Teresina, Piauí. However, it was all just a prank created by the satirical news profile Piauiverso.
In the “report,” the unusual accessory was said to have been adopted by motorcyclists as a form of protest against the excessive number of radars in the city, an initiative created by the association “Bald Heads for Freedom on the Road.” Meanwhile, the image of the helmet used in the “article” was generated by artificial intelligence.
“The helmet photo already existed, but we created the headline around the image to fit the reality of Piauí,” explained Danilo, who works in the marketing department of a tourism company, in a conversation with UOL.
The post received over 14,000 shares, with many believing it to be real news. However, the profile has several disclaimers that its content is purely humorous.
“Everything is done well in advance and researched, without the adrenaline of real news outlets covering real stories. Humor and rush don’t always go well together,” reflected Danilo.
