A British motorcyclist has been banned from driving for life and must pay a $15,000 fine after overtaking in a tunnel in Switzerland.

The incident occurred in the Saint Gotthard Tunnel, the third largest road tunnel in the world. Even with its 17 km length, overtaking is strictly prohibited inside.

Unfortunately, this did not stop a British motorcyclist who overtook not just one vehicle, but 45 cars and two trucks while riding through the tunnel earlier this year.

The reasons why the motorcyclist did this are unclear, but the Public Prosecutor filed charges for serious violations of the Federal Traffic Law and for driving under inappropriate conditions.

And, as reported by Motorrad Online, the motorcyclist did not get away unpunished. As soon as he exited the tunnel, the Swiss police were already waiting for him.

In addition to fines totaling 13,000 euros (equivalent to more than $15,000), he received a lifetime ban from driving or riding a motorcycle in Switzerland.
