The Moldova has officially incorporated the Israeli-made ATMOS self-propelled artillery systems into its military. The confirmation came after the Ministry of Defense released a video showing the equipment in operation in the country.
This is a milestone for the Moldovan armed forces, which until now have only used Soviet-origin towed weapons, such as the D-30 and 2A65 Msta-B howitzers, as well as mortars of various calibers.
The new systems are part of a contract announced by Elbit Systems in 2023, intended for an undisclosed client, with execution planned over eight years. It is now confirmed that Moldova is one of the recipients of the deal, strengthening its military capacity amid the modernization of its arsenal.
The ATMOS is a 155mm howitzer mounted on a Tatra chassis, equipped with an armored cabin and designed to provide mobility and rapid response. The system can reach up to 30 km with conventional ammunition and up to 41 km with rocket-assisted projectiles, operating at a rate of 4 to 9 rounds per minute and carrying 32 rounds internally.
