A wine-colored Chevrolet Omega that had been cut in half in Brazil has always left people very intrigued. Fortunately, the reason for the unusual division has been revealed.

According to a report by the UOL website, the car was recently rescued by businessman and classic car collector Alexandre Badolato, who intends to give a new life to the sedan that was a true icon of the 1990s.

On his YouTube channel, Badolato explained that the vehicle was located in the yard of the Senai unit in Ipiranga, in the southern zone of São Paulo, but it passed through several locations before arriving there.

The car was displayed at the Auto Show in October 1992, when General Motors launched the Omega to replace the old Opala.

That same month, the wine-colored Omega was “cut” in half by a magician using a kind of flashlight at the Anhembi exhibition center, also in São Paulo.

Although the presentation was merely a staging to make it appear that the magician had cut the vehicle in half with a “laser,” the Chevy was, in fact, divided in two for the show.

After taking part in a few more exhibitions and spending a long time at Senai, the Omega with chassis number 37 ended up with Badolato, who has already begun work to restore it.

“It’s unusual that this car survived. Normally, the industry takes vehicles like this, made for events and exhibitions, and later dismantles them. But now it has come to us, and we are carrying out the restoration process,” the businessman told UOL.

It is worth emphasizing that the goal is not to join the two halves to try to make it run again. The intention is only to recover worn parts and replace components that disappeared or were damaged over time.

“As it is a car so different from what existed at the time of its launch, and also because of the great impact it caused, it has historical importance. It will be nice to add it to the collection we already have,” Badolato added.
