Mini has just released images of two new Cooper JCW hatchback concepts, developed in partnership with clothing brand Deus Ex Machina.
The Skeg, based on the electric JCW, produces 255 horsepower from a single front-mounted electric motor. According to the brand, its design inspiration comes from the world of surfing.
It uses fiberglass, which is used to make most modern surfboards, for much of the body. The wider fiberglass fenders are attached with visible rivets.

Meanwhile, a large rear wing hangs from the roof to respond “to airflow in the same way a surfboard rides the contours of a wave,” according to Mini.
Inside, it features only the essentials, with bucket seats covered in waterproof neoprene, perfect for when you’re still a bit wet after a day at the beach. Mini also equipped the Skeg with fiberglass trays to hold wetsuits.

Meanwhile, the The Machina, the second concept presented by the brand, is based on the combustion JCW and delivers 228 hp from a 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine.
The Machina‘s design is race-inspired, with pronounced wheel arches and a lowered chassis, giving the JCW a more imposing stance.
Above the grille, there are four circular auxiliary lights, recalling rally racing, while the round headlight housings replace standard bulbs with a pair of LED strips.

At the rear, a Can-Am-style spoiler hangs from the roof, while its red, black, and white colors are carried into the interior.
Inside, it features five-point racing harnesses and sports seats. There is also an exposed roll cage and a simple steering wheel without buttons, but it has a tall lever to operate the hydraulic handbrake, allowing the Machina to slide sideways easily.

The two concepts were unveiled just before the IAA Motor Show in Munich, Germany, and will likely not reach production. However, they serve as a testament to the brand’s creativity, boldness, and ability to innovate in design.
