Santa Rita do Passa Quatro (SP – Brazil) – An A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the Esquadrilha da Fumaça, the Brazilian Air Force’s aerial demonstration team, crashed on Wednesday morning (30) during a training flight in formation with three other aircraft.

The accident occurred in the region of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, in the countryside of São Paulo. Footage circulating on social media shows the moment two aircraft collide in mid-air while performing a maneuver.

One of the aircraft managed to return safely to the Air Force Academy aerodrome in Pirassununga. The other, severely damaged, crashed in a field after the pilot activated the ejection system.

According to preliminary information, the aircraft involved was the A-29 Super Tucano with serial number 5, registration FAB 5724. The pilot successfully ejected and was promptly rescued.

In an official statement, the Air Force Command reported that the pilot is in good condition and undergoing routine medical evaluations. “The pilot successfully ejected, is doing well, and is undergoing standard medical evaluations for this type of situation,” the Brazilian Air Force said.

The causes of the accident will be investigated by the competent authorities of the Air Force.
