Michael Schumacher, who spent 12 years bedridden after suffering an accident, would now be using a wheelchair, the British newspaper Daily Mail revealed.

The former German F1 driver suffered an accident while skiing in France on December 29, 2013. Since then, family and friends have been very discreet about his health condition.

Now, according to the British outlet, Schumacher would be using a wheelchair, but is still unable to move independently and requires assistance from another person.

Schumacher is monitored 24 hours a day, under the care of his wife, Corinna, and a team made up of nurses and therapists.

Only a very limited list of people is authorized to visit him. It includes Corinna and the couple’s children, Gina-Maria and Mick, as well as some of Schumacher’s friends, such as Jean Todt, Ross Brawn and Gerhard Berger, according to The Telegraph.

Recently, Richard Hopkins, former head of operations at Red Bull and a personal friend of the former driver, even stated that the public will never see Schumacher again.

“I can make a comment, have an opinion, but I’m not part of that inner circle. I’m not Jean Todt, I’m not Ross Brawn, I’m not Gerhard Berger, who visit Michael. I’m very far from that,” Hopkins told Sportsbible.
