Metal Shark introduced the HSMUSV, a new type of “naval drone” developed for various missions and can be integrated into the US Navy’s fleet.
With a more affordable cost than similar vessels, the vehicle was designed to operate remotely from its inception. It uses the same type of hull as other military vessels and features its own software, allowing intuitive control via secure radio and internet connection through the Starlink network.
Powered by gasoline or diesel, the HSMUSV can reach speeds of up to 75 km/h and has a range of over 900 km or up to 10 days at lower speeds. Its operational flexibility is one of its key differentiators, allowing it to be used for coastal missions, surveillance, and escorting.
The model can also be configured to transport payloads such as drones, ammunition, and surveillance systems, in addition to participating in logistical support operations between vessels.
Another notable feature is its adaptability for combat. During the presentation, the HSMUSV was equipped with a Switchblade 300 munition system, with a range of up to 30 km, useful for dealing with threats such as small boats and drones.
Depending on the configuration, the cost of the drone can be under $500,000, and the company guarantees a production capacity of one unit per day.
