Mercedes-Benz is taking a major step in automating its production by introducing humanoid robots at its Berlin factory in Germany.

The partnership with Apptronik resulted in the development of the Apollo machines, which have the potential to revolutionize assembly lines by replacing traditional industrial robots.

With their humanoid form, the Apollo robots are programmed to perform tasks such as internal logistics, quality inspections, and assist with repetitive functions, increasing efficiency and reducing human errors.

These robots undergo special training, where Mercedes employees use technologies like teleoperation and augmented reality to instruct them. This collaborative approach allows the robots to learn from human experience, adapting to the production needs.

After training, the Apollo robots gain autonomy and can operate with minimal supervision, automatically connecting to power when necessary, ensuring continuous performance.

Mercedes-Benz is not the only automaker investing in humanoid robots. Tesla is developing its own robot model, while BMW is already implementing advanced robots at its South Carolina factory. Additionally, Chinese Dongfeng Motors has also introduced an AI-powered robot in its production line, highlighting the growing trend in the automotive industry to adopt robotic solutions to optimize production.
