Tesla opened the first Tesla Diner location last weekend in Los Angeles, California. In addition to a supercharging station for electric cars, the restaurant features a team of robots to serve customers.
The idea was first revealed by Elon Musk in 2018, when he posted on Twitter that he wanted to create a “drive-in old school, roller skates and rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles.”
In 2021, Tesla filed trademark applications in the restaurant sector, and in 2023, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety approved the company’s request to build a drive-in restaurant on West Santa Monica Boulevard.
Now, the Tesla Diner has started welcoming its first customers, who are flooding social media with clips of their interactions with the robots. “Imagine arriving at this place and being greeted by this [robot Optimus Prime] to take your orders,” said a user on X (formerly Twitter).
The establishment also features Tesla’s ultra-fast charging station, the Supercharger, which customers can use to quickly charge their electric vehicles in the parking lot while dining.
Musk said that if the first Tesla Diner is a success, he plans to open more locations “in major cities around the world.” “An island of good food, good vibes, and entertainment, all while you use the Supercharger!” Musk wrote on his X profile.
