A mechanic terrified internet users by reporting a case of a Cadillac Escalade that was starting on its own.
In a clip posted on TikTok, the owner of the profile Dealership Life shared the time he received an Escalade that, according to its owner, was experiencing mysterious “electrical problems.”
“If you like crazy and strange stories, this one’s for you, because this is a crazy story,” the mechanic began in the video.
“So, this woman buys an Escalade, and she calls me one day and says, ‘Hey, you know, I’m awake at 2 a.m. feeding my newborn, and my entire yard is lit up.'”
“‘The headlights keep turning on in the Escalade, and no one is near it. I’m inside, my husband is sleeping, everyone is sleeping, and the headlights keep coming on, lighting up my entire yard, and then they turn on and off, and on again,'” the woman said, as recounted by the mechanic.
After explaining the problem, the woman decided to take her car to the dealership’s service shop, where the vehicle remained for two weeks. During that time, the electrical fault “did not happen […] not even once,” according to the mechanic.
“We parked it inside, outside. We watched the security tape to make sure it wasn’t happening, nothing. No codes. Nothing. Nothing,” he reported.
The team tried everything to recreate the issue, but without success. Fortunately, the store’s new service manager had experience with a similar case at another dealership.
“The new service manager said, ‘Ask her if she lives under a power line, like if there’s a power line running over or near her house,'” the mechanic explained.
“He said, ‘Because we had this problem at Porsche, where the vehicle had strange electronic issues every time it went under a power line.'”
When contacting his client, her answer was immediate: yes. “So, I explained to her what happened with that Porsche. I was like, I don’t know if this is it, but it could be. Maybe park somewhere else and see if it happens.”
This theory was quickly confirmed by an event that occurred a week later. “The transformer on that power line exploded, and when they went out to fix it, it stopped happening,” the mechanic said.
This incident proved that it was electromagnetic interference causing the electrical problems in the Escalade. “I would never, in a million years, have imagined that this was what was happening with her car,” admitted the mechanic.
