McLaren 765LT recalled due to risk of rear windows detaching at high speeds (Instagram @mclarenauto)
McLaren has announced a recall of 163 units of the 2021 765LT model due to the risk of the rear window detaching at high speeds.
The issue lies in the adhesive used to secure the polycarbonate glass, which may fail and cause noises or even complete detachment of the window during driving. Owner reports indicated vibrations coming from the rear of the cabin, leading to the discovery of the defect.
Although the failure was not replicated during normal testing, the manufacturer identified that high speeds on race tracks, especially with the side windows open, could be the cause. Some tracks require windows to be open for safety, and this situation increases the pressure on the rear window, promoting adhesive detachment.
To address the issue, McLaren will install physical fixings to secure the glass to the carbon structure. Until the final repair is completed, owners are advised not to exceed 155 km/h with the windows open.
As a temporary solution, dealerships may apply extra adhesive in the corners of the window to ensure greater safety until the final repair is completed.
