Gandini became known for his work at Lamborghini, where he was responsible for designing iconic cars such as the Countach, the Miura, and the Diablo. The Stratos from Lancia, the EB110 from Bugatti, and the X1/9 from Fiat were also developed by him.

Born in Turin, in northern Italy, Gandini created his most famous designs while working at the Italian design house Bertone, developing the lines of cars like the Montreal from Alfa Romeo, the Khamsin from Maserati, the original Polo from Volkswagen, and the 308 GT4 from Ferrari.

After departing from Bertone, Gandini worked independently with car manufacturers such as Citroën to develop the popular BX and with Renault to design the now-iconic hatchback 5 Turbo.

Gandini was also responsible for other notable designs such as the original 5 Series from BMW, the Espada from Lamborghini, and the V16T from Cizeta-Moroder. Due to his iconic works, Gandini received an honorary title in mechanical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Turin in January of this year.
