A man went viral after revealing a common strategy used by dealerships to wear you out while you’re trying to buy a new car.

Zach posted a video on TikTok to share that he went to a dealership to buy a new pickup truck last weekend. However, after talking to the salesman for a while, he simply disappeared.

“Has anyone else gone to buy a pickup truck and the salesman just left for like 30 minutes? And you’re like, ‘Dude, I just want to buy a truck. Sell me a truck. What’s the deal?'”, he asked his followers.

Although it may seem counterintuitive for a salesman to leave a customer waiting for such a long period, some believe this is actually a sales tactic.

“This is how they wear you out. Tell them not to waste your time and start walking away. They’ll move faster,” one user commented.

“My best line: ‘I’m here to buy a truck. Don’t bother me. Don’t try to sell me extras. Don’t tell me I need anything. I know what I came to buy.’ Don’t be nice; you’re the one paying,” wrote another.

“As a former CFO, this is a sales tactic. I strongly recommend using their phone in the showroom to call another dealership. Things will speed up real quick after that,” added a third.

This “waiting game” happens when the sales team drags things out for so long, hoping the buyer will run out of time or get so tired that they agree to something they wouldn’t normally accept.
