Thomas Rice, the owner of the stolen truck, was relieved after his father’s ashes, which he was transporting to a cemetery, were found.

Rice was in Syracuse for his nephew’s wedding when his vehicle was stolen from the hotel parking lot where he was staying. He was traveling from Connecticut, where his father had lived, to pick up his ashes and bring them to North Carolina for burial.

According to Rice, when he realized his truck had been stolen, he immediately thought about the ashes and other belongings of his father that were inside the vehicle.

Speaking to the American TV network WSYR, Channel 9, he described his truck, explained what was inside, and expressed hope that the ashes would be returned to him and his family.

Fortunately, the vehicle was found abandoned, and although the thieves took several items, they left the ashes behind along with many of Rice’s father’s other belongings.

Now that the ashes have been recovered, Rice’s family plans to hold the funeral in November; according to him, his father was a man of great accomplishments: “And even after he passed away, he had one more adventure left in store.”
