Lucid Motors used its investor day, held in New York (USA) last Thursday (12), to present the Lucid Lunar, a mid-size luxury vehicle that will join its robotaxi fleet.
According to a report by Business Insider, the car is built without pedals and without a steering wheel, just like the Cybercab from Tesla or the robotaxi from Zoox. In the concept shown during the presentation, it is possible to see that the vehicle features a large console screen that stretches across the dashboard.
The Lunar will be based on the same platform as the company’s new mid-size EVs, allowing a rapid increase in production, said Marc Winterhoff, interim CEO of Lucid Motors.
According to him, the company expects operating costs to be 40% lower than the robotaxis currently on the market. Unlike the Gravity, it is still unknown whether the Lunar would also be launched in partnership with Uber.
However, Winterhoff revealed the concept car during his conversation with Andrew Macdonald, chief operating officer of Uber. “I think our customers will love it,” Macdonald said during the presentation.
During the event, the automaker also revealed two more vehicles, the Lucid Cosmos and the Lucid Earth. The first is expected to reach the market later this year, focusing on energy efficiency and reduced manufacturing costs to compete directly with the Model Y from Tesla.
