Lithuania has officially announced the selection of the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft from the Brazilian company Embraer, as part of a strategy to enhance its operational readiness and strengthen interoperability with other NATO countries.
The decision paves the way for the acquisition of three units of the Brazilian aircraft and also includes an industrial partnership covering maintenance, parts production, and collaboration with local research centers.
The Lithuanian government evaluated several aircraft options before choosing the C-390, considered the most suitable model to meet the country’s military requirements. Embraer, in turn, celebrated the selection as recognition of the quality and versatility of its aircraft, highlighting its ability to perform complex missions and its compatibility with NATO standards. The acquisition contract is expected to be finalized in the coming months.
With this choice, Lithuania joins other European countries such as Portugal, Hungary, and Sweden that have also adopted the C-390 in their air forces.
The aircraft has stood out for its high reliability, range, and payload capacity, capable of operating in adverse conditions and performing a wide variety of missions including troop and equipment transport, medical evacuation, humanitarian missions, and even aerial refueling.
