Lithuania has announced the purchase of 936 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles from Finland as part of a broad effort to strengthen its armed forces amid growing security tensions in Eastern Europe.
According to the website Defence Blog, the agreement was signed between Lithuania’s State Defence Council and the Finnish manufacturer Patria. The vehicles will be produced locally in cooperation with Lithuanian companies, increasing the participation of the national industry in the military program.
The new armored vehicles will be used mainly for troop transport and operational support missions. The Patria 6×6 model is known for its mobility on difficult terrain, ballistic protection, and ability to be adapted for different military roles.
The acquisition is part of the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) initiative, led by Finland and already joined by countries such as Sweden, Latvia, and Germany. The program aims to standardize military vehicles among European allies and reduce development and maintenance costs.
“The Patria team has been working with Lithuanian industry for more than a year, and the cooperation has been very positive and active,” said Jussi Järvinen, head of the Protected Mobility business area at Patria.

“We are very pleased with Lithuania’s decision to select the Patria 6×6 armored vehicle platform through participation in CAVS. Our goal is to build a long-term partnership with Lithuania.”
Lithuanian authorities said the military reinforcement is a direct response to the security situation in the region following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The country, a NATO member and neighbor of Belarus and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, has been increasing its defense investments in recent years.
