Lithuania has just approved the purchase of 100 CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles under a joint procurement program with five NATO allies.
The decision was approved by the Lithuanian State Defence Council, which also instructed officials to pay special attention to the domestic production of key components and the long-term maintenance of the CV90 MkIV within the country.
According to Defence Blog, this move is intended to modernize its ground forces and expand regional industrial cooperation. The main contract is expected to be signed in early 2026.
The “Nordic” CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicle program involves Lithuania along with Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and the Netherlands. Deliveries of the vehicles to participating countries are planned to begin in 2028.
The CV90 MkIV is the latest version of BAE Systems Hägglunds infantry fighting vehicle, featuring enhanced protection, modern command and control systems, advanced weaponry, and the ability to integrate technologies according to customer requirements.
The model was developed to operate in high-threat environments, offering greater survivability, improved situational awareness, and increased firepower to support mechanized infantry units.
For Lithuania in particular, the acquisition is expected to replace older armored platforms and provide a more modern backbone for its ground forces, as the country continues to adapt to NATO standards and operational realities along the alliance’s eastern flank.
