Latvia has approved the transfer of new CVR(T) armored vehicles to Ukraine, expanding its military support to the country amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The decision was made by Latvia’s Ministry of Defence, which emphasized the need to strengthen the reconnaissance capabilities of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
According to Defence Minister Andris Spruds, the move reflects Riga’s continued commitment to supporting Kyiv for as long as necessary. Despite the new shipment, the government assured that the transfer will not compromise the operational readiness of Latvia’s armed forces, although it did not disclose the exact number of vehicles involved.
This is not the first contribution from the Baltic country. Since 2024, Latvia has been supplying CVR(T) vehicles as part of military aid packages, including an initial batch of nine units and another 12 delivered later. The most recent shipment began at the end of March this year.
The CVR(T) series vehicles, developed in the United Kingdom, are lightweight tracked platforms designed for multiple roles such as reconnaissance, troop transport, medical evacuation, and logistical support. Weighing around 8 tonnes and capable of air transport, approximately 4,000 units have been produced and they remain widely used in modern military operations.
