AvtoVAZ has introduced an update to the classic Lada Niva Legend, which now features, for the first time in nearly 50 years, an airbag and improved corrosion protection.
The Russian model, originally launched in 1977, remains in production with its essence practically unchanged, making it one of the longest-running utility vehicles in the global market.

The main highlight of the update is the addition of a driver airbag, integrated into a new steering wheel shared with other models from the brand.
In addition, the Niva receives a set of structural improvements that includes body parts with galvanized treatment, increasing resistance to rust, one of the vehicle’s historically most criticized weak points.

As part of the modernization package, the SUV also gains comfort and efficiency adjustments, such as improvements to sound insulation and the climate control system, as well as an updated 1.8-liter eight-valve engine, which replaces the old 1.7-liter unit and delivers a slight increase in power and better fuel consumption.

According to information released by the manufacturer, the set of changes involves more than 100 new components and around 60 revised parts, while maintaining the original purpose of the Niva as a simple, rugged vehicle designed for off-road use.
Despite the improvements, the project still preserves the classic look and basic architecture of the model, reinforcing the Niva’s character as an “industrial survivor.”
