Kuwait has selected Rheinmetall to supply the MASS (Multi Ammunition Softkill System) naval countermeasure system for the first time, with the equipment set to be installed on eight vessels operated by the country’s Navy.

The contract, booked in the second quarter of 2026, also includes Omnitrap decoy ammunition and equipment integration and validation services, with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2029.

The launchers will be installed on Al Dorra-class vessels, which are part of Kuwait’s largest naval construction program in more than 15 years. Designed for patrol and open-sea combat missions with stealth characteristics, the vessels are being built by Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding for the United Arab Emirates-based EDGE Group.

In addition to the MASS system, the contract covers the acquisition of the new Omnitrap-ER ammunition, developed to counter more modern threats. The model offers an extended range and optimized trajectory, improving the effectiveness of countermeasures against missiles guided by imaging radars and infrared sensors.

Designed to protect vessels against anti-ship missiles and laser-guided weapons, MASS uses multispectral countermeasures capable of operating against different types of sensors. Its modular architecture allows it to be installed on vessels of various sizes, integrated with existing command systems or operated completely independently.
