Kratos is developing new versions of the stealth drone XQ-58A Valkyrie after the United States Marine Corps announced plans to turn it into an official acquisition program. The company has also partnered with Airbus to create a European variant intended for the German Luftwaffe, with deliveries expected by 2029. Additionally, the manufacturer is negotiating with two other undisclosed clients, positioning itself as an exclusive supplier in both cases.

To meet demand, Kratos has already started planning to produce at least 24 additional units, raising the total production to 48 drones, including versions with independent runway takeoff, CTOL (with landing gear) capabilities, and custom models.

The Marines have been testing the Valkyrie primarily for electronic warfare and attack missions, with special interest in versions that operate in remote locations. Meanwhile, the European variant, developed with Airbus, will feature a modular architecture for integration with NATO systems. In parallel, Kratos is expanding its portfolio with other projects such as the Airwolf tactical drone and the stealthy Apollo and Athena drones, the latter already in flight testing.

The company highlights that the Valkyrie is a proven platform, with operational flights since 2019, including joint operations with fighters such as the F-35 and F-22.

Kratos’ strategy contrasts with the competition in the US Air Force’s CCA (Collaborative Combat Aircraft) program, from which it was excluded in the first phase. While rivals such as General Atomics and Anduril are preparing more complex prototypes, Kratos is betting on affordable and scalable drones, aligning with recent military statements about a preference for cost-effective solutions.

With continuous investments in the Valkyrie and a focus on international markets, the company is solidifying its position as a leader in next-generation combat drones.
