Koenigsegg Jesko Sets New Lap Speed Record on ‘Top Gear’ Track (YouTube @TopGear)
The Koenigsegg Jesko recently set a new lap record at the Dunsfold circuit in England, the famous Top Gear test track.
In the hands of The Stig, the 1,600-horsepower hypercar completed the lap in 1 minute and 10.9 seconds, making it the fastest legal production car to run on that track.
Although impressive, this time didn’t beat the record set by the Caparo T1, a nearly road-legal race car, which completed the lap in 1:10.6. However, the Caparo was disqualified for being too low to clear a speed bump.
The Jesko, while slightly slower, is a fully road-legal car with a roof and interior for two people, and it is more practical and comfortable than the Caparo. The Jesko is currently in production, with 125 units planned. The “Attack” version of the model focuses on track performance, while the “Absolut” version is built for speed, with the potential to reach 500 km/h thanks to its nine-speed transmission.
The Dunsfold circuit remains in operation, even though Top Gear is no longer airing. The Dunsfold Park project, which includes the construction of 1,800 homes and a new park, is underway at the site, which also houses the Dunsfold Aerodrome, a location for ongoing development.
