The Mercedes-Benz 500E that once belonged to comedian Jerry Seinfeld was sold for a record price at an auction organized by Gooding & Company.
The 500E (W124) is a highly sought-after model due to its unique manufacturing history. Recently, an impressive example of the iconic car was sold for €72,900 in Hamburg, Germany.
However, according to a report from Motor 1, none had ever come close to the price achieved by Seinfeld’s 500E, which sold for an astonishing $320,000.

But it’s not only because it was once owned by a celebrity that this car is so appealing. Above all, the 500E is, in theory, half Porsche.
This is because the wider body of the sedan could not be produced on the regular production line at Mercedes in Sindelfingen, so assembly took place at Porsche’s facilities in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, in the so-called “Rössle” building.

This unusual collaboration between Mercedes and Porsche, combined with the model’s durability and everyday usability, made the 500E a highly coveted collector’s car.
As for the record price of this particular example, it can be explained by taking a look at the car’s odometer. Seinfeld bought the car new in 1992 and kept it until 2016. During that time, and even with its subsequent owner, the car was barely driven and has only 3,758 km on the clock.

Additionally, the car’s condition was described by Gooding & Company as “virtually new.” The classic Brilliant Silver Metallic paint and the light gray leather interior look as if the car had just left Porsche’s Zuffenhausen facility.
