Production under Finnish license

The vehicle is produced under license from the Finnish company Patria, in partnership with Japan Steel Works, which is responsible for local manufacturing. A total of 26 units will be delivered.
The new AMV XP will replace the Type 96 APCs, which have formed the backbone of the Japanese Army’s ground mobility for decades.

Features of the AMV XP

The Patria AMV XP is the most modern version of the Finnish manufacturer’s family of armored vehicles, recognized for its versatility.

It offers a spacious interior, enabling the simultaneous transport of troops and the integration of different systems, such as weapons, communications, and specialized equipment.

The chassis is compatible with a wide range of combat modules, from heavy machine guns and automatic cannons to anti-tank systems.

It also has amphibious capability, being able to move in water at speeds of up to 10 km/h.

International recognition

The Patria AMV is already in service in several NATO countries and is considered one of the most promising platforms in the category of modern armored vehicles. Its adaptation to the Japanese context represents not only a technological advancement but also a strengthening of the national defense industry.
