Japan has sent a new batch of 30 military vehicles to Ukraine, bringing the total number of units transferred since 2024 to 131.
The shipment is part of Japan’s technical assistance program to the country, which began in June of last year with the delivery of 101 vehicles, including Toyota HMV, Mitsubishi Type 73 Kogata, and tracked engineering vehicles.
In addition to the vehicles, Tokyo also provides non-lethal equipment such as bulletproof vests, helmets, gas masks, and surveillance drones. The Japanese government also participates in international coalitions focused on demining and technological support, reinforcing its commitment to Ukraine’s reconstruction and defense efforts.
The transfer is made at the request of the Ukrainian government and follows a decision by the Japanese cabinet in May 2023. The Japanese Ministry of Defense stated that it will continue to support Kyiv and highlighted the implementation of a rehabilitation program for injured Ukrainian soldiers who are being treated in Japan.
