BAE Systems Hägglunds and Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) signed a memorandum of understanding on May 22, 2025, aimed at establishing a strategic collaboration for the introduction and local production of the BvS10 all-terrain armored vehicle for the Italian Armed Forces.
The industrial partnership will combine the technical expertise of both companies with Italy’s national production capabilities, enabling the development of BvS10 variants specifically tailored to the country’s operational needs. The project marks a key step in strengthening Italy’s defense autonomy and supply chain security.

Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, General Manager of BAE Systems Hägglunds, highlighted the importance of the initiative for national defense and the European industrial base. Claudio Catalano, CEO of IDV, reaffirmed his company’s commitment to delivering military platforms aligned with the modern requirements of the Italian Army.
Versatile and Combat-Proven Vehicle
Jointly developed by BAE Systems in the United Kingdom and Land Systems Hägglunds in Sweden, the BvS10 is an articulated, amphibious, tracked armored vehicle consisting of two connected modules — a front module for driving and a rear module for troop or equipment transport.

Designed for extreme environments — from deserts to arctic regions — the BvS10 is ideal for rapid deployment in multinational operations. It has a payload capacity of 3 to 5 tons, a 250 hp Cummins engine, an Allison MD3560 automatic transmission, and a range of 500 km. It can reach speeds of up to 65 km/h on roads and 5 km/h in water, with amphibious preparation completed in under two minutes.
The vehicle can be equipped with 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine guns mounted on the roof, as well as smoke grenade launchers. Its modular architecture allows for the integration of additional armor kits, remotely operated weapon stations, and protection against mines and RPGs. Available variants include troop transport, ambulance, command post, logistics, recovery, and self-propelled mortar.
In Operation Across Several European Nations
The BvS10 is already in service in countries such as Austria, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Ukraine, having proven its reliability in diverse operational theaters. Italy’s adoption of the vehicle, now with domestic production, ensures logistical alignment with European partners and enhances interoperability in joint operations.
IDV, a subsidiary of the Iveco Group, brings its expertise in the production of modern military vehicles, while BAE Systems continues to deliver advanced defense solutions worldwide.
This strategic alliance marks a significant milestone for Italy’s defense capabilities and exemplifies the growing industrial cooperation in Europe, focused on resilience, interoperability, and long-term military readiness.
