Iran showcased Russian armored vehicles Spartak during an official handover ceremony to border guard units.
According to analyst Yuri Lyamin, this is the first formal demonstration of Spartak vehicles integrated into Iranian forces, also confirming their sale to the country. The model is an MRAP designed to withstand mines, explosive devices, and ambushes.
Iranian authorities state that the new armored vehicles are intended to enhance the safety of personnel operating in high-risk areas, especially along the Iran-Afghanistan border, where clashes and armed group activity are frequent. The arrival of the vehicles is part of a modernization package for units responsible for territorial protection.
The Spartak weighs approximately 14.5 tons and can reach speeds up to 100 km/h, with an estimated range of 1,000 km. The armored vehicle measures 6.5 meters long, 2.55 meters wide, and 2.8 meters high, and is powered by a 312 hp turbo diesel engine. Its armor can withstand 12.7 mm armor-piercing rounds, equivalent to STANAG Level III.
