The Indian Navy is receiving a new warship or submarine produced in the country every two months, according to Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of India.

This statement was made during the India Defence Conclave and reflects the progress of the self-sufficiency policy in defense and military technology adopted by the Indian government.

According to Tripathi, the country currently has 52 vessels under construction at domestic shipyards and plans to expand its fleet to more than 200 combat units by 2035. The Admiral emphasized that strengthening the Navy is not only about expanding the fleet but also developing indigenous components and technologies.

India currently has about 145 active ships and submarines. The goal, according to the commander, is to achieve full naval independence by 2047, consolidating an industrial and technological base capable of supporting the country’s maritime power in an autonomous and sustainable way.
