Hyundai gave an impressive glimpse of what the Ioniq 3 might look like in 2026 after unveiling the Concept Three at the Munich Motor Show.

The South Korean automaker, preparing to announce the first electric compact in its Ioniq lineup, presented the concept of the B-segment hatchback, developed specifically for the European market.

Also nicknamed the “aero hatch” by Hyundai, the Concept Three will join other updated B-segment vehicles in 2026, where it will be accompanied by a new i20 and a Bayon crossover, according to Car Magazine.

Ioniq stands for sustainable materials, the longest wheelbase in the segment, and it’s about pixels,” explained Simon Loasby, head of design at Hyundai, and Xavier Martinet, president and CEO of Hyundai Europe.

Details like the yellow plexiglass were designed to highlight the distinctive features of the Ioniq 3, including its window line, its spoiler, and its alloy wheels, while also offering a preview of what a performance version might look like.

In addition to its rear-opening doors, its interior is also very atypical compared to normal automotive fashion. It features massive seats that resemble armchairs more than car seats and several little smiling faces throughout the interior.

Despite its technological appearance, the interior will feature several physical buttons, an aspect that Loasby seems particularly keen on emphasizing. Meanwhile, the head-up display dashboard looks like a feature that will actually make it to the eventual production car.

According to Loasby, the overall silhouette of the Concept Three will also remain in the production version, and according to him, it’s his favorite detail of this concept. “We needed the Ioniq 3 because between the Inster and the Kona, there is a gap,” he explained.

“We needed a car to enter the electric vehicle retail market, and we firmly believe the production version will attract not only fleet customers but also retail customers. Once this car is launched, we will be the only brand to offer electric cars from the A-segment to electric SUVs.”
