Hyundai and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have announced a recall of over 145,000 electric vehicles due to an issue that can cause power loss during driving, increasing the risk of accidents.

The defect is in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which is responsible for charging the vehicle’s 12-volt battery. If the ICCU fails, it could discharge the battery.

Five models from three different manufacturing years are involved in the recall, including vehicles from the Ioniq range and luxury electric models from Genesis. Hyundai plans to inspect the vehicles, replace defective components, and update the control unit software—all at no cost to customers.

This is not the first recall related to this issue. Back in May, Hyundai recalled nearly 100,000 vehicles for the same defects. The company will notify affected owners by mail starting in January and recommends drivers check if their vehicles are on the list by contacting dealers or visiting the NHTSA website.
