Hertz lowers prices and tries to sell Shelby Mach-E GTs and Teslas after low rental demand (Instagram @hertz)
Hertz is selling the rare Shelby Mach-E GTs from its rental fleet less than a year after making them available.
Launched in 2024, only 100 units were produced, but 67 are still for sale on the company’s website, suggesting low demand. Despite the prestige of the Shelby brand, these electric models don’t seem to generate the same excitement as Hertz’s traditional GT-H models.
The high price could be a factor in the low demand. Each Shelby Mach-E GT-H is listed at $59,995, nearly double the price of a standard Mach-E GT from the fleet, despite both having 480 hp.
The Shelby model includes an exclusive body kit, a lowered suspension, and even artificial V-8 exhaust sounds. The available units have between 6,400 and 24,100 kilometers, but all maintain the same price, which has already dropped from $65,000 in November.
Hertz appears to be scaling back its investment in electric vehicles. Recently, the company also reduced its Tesla Model 3 fleet, which sold quickly for around $20,000, even though they had higher mileage than the Shelbys. Currently, only 12 Model 3 units remain for sale, reinforcing the idea that the rental company is stepping away from high-performance EVs.
