A heavy snowstorm that hit the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA), caused a pileup of nearly a hundred vehicles on a highway on Monday morning (19).
While the snowstorm did not result in any fatalities or serious injuries, the phenomenon severely affected driver visibility in the region, causing vehicles to skid off the road.
Winds of 40 to 65 km/h were recorded, and at the worst point, visibility was reduced to just 400 meters. All of this led to the pileup on Interstate 196 between Zeeland and Hudsonville.
The incident was captured by the Chicago Midwest & Midwest Storm Chasers, who shared videos showing authorities using school buses to rescue people trapped in the snowstorm.
According to the page, people were safely directed to a local school. They also posted videos of teams towing trucks off the highway in an attempt to normalize traffic.
