Greece has officially confirmed the purchase of a fourth FDI frigate to strengthen the Hellenic Navy, expanding the program that started in 2022.
The new contract, signed with Naval Group, includes the construction of the ship, its support, and the expansion of capabilities for the entire FDI fleet, with the first three units already in advanced stages of production.
Naval Group highlighted that this new order confirms Greece’s trust in the project, considered one of the most modern in Europe for high-intensity combat. The FDI frigates are equipped to face aerial, submarine, cyber, and asymmetric threats, featuring advanced digital systems and a design suited for operating in severe conditions, including rough seas.
The fourth unit also increases the participation of the Greek industry in the project, which will now reach 25% local content. According to Naval Group, the FDIs were designed according to NATO standards, ensuring interoperability with allied navies and greater operational availability due to automated systems and ease of maintenance.
